Vespa SXL and VXL launched: Price, Specs, Features, Photos

In presence of their new global ambassador, Italian football great, Alessandro Del Piero, Vespa launched their new range of automatic scooters at a glittering event in Mumbai this evening. A total of four new scooters were added to the Vespa line-up today – SXL 125, SXL 150, VXL 125 and VXL 150.


Vespa is the only scooter brand in India which has been continuously focusing on catering to a very niche segment of scooter buyers in the country. In spite of many players launching cheaper scooters (some even copying the retro look of Vespa), to generate more sales, Vespa has managed to stand out from the crowd.

The design plays a very big role in keeping Vespa at a different level as compared to rivals. In the case of the new SXL and VXL twins, design is instantly appeals instantly.

Of the two, the SXL is the more expensive one. In the front, it features rectangular headlamp with chrome finish on the borders. The VXL on the other hand features circular headlamp. The other difference between the two is alloys, SXL gets black alloys, while VXL gets silver alloys. There is one more visible feature that differentiates the two – it is the presence of steel handle bars for rear passenger on board the VXL, while the SXL gets more stylish leather strap. Both get well contoured and comfortable new seats.

Engine and Gearbox

On board the 125 cc variants of Vespa SXL and VXL is the same 3 valve 125 cc state of the art engine with aluminium cylinder head which is already seen on board the existing 125 cc scooters from Vespa (LX 125, VX 125 and Vespa S). This engine delivers maximum power of 10.06 PS at 7,500 rpm and a peak torque of 10.6 Nm at 6,000 rpm.

Bringing their 150 cc scooter for the first time in India, the Vespa SXL and VXL 150 cc range is powered by 3 valve 150 cc engine with aluminium cylinder head. It delivers a maximum power of 11.6 PS at 7,000 rpm and 11.5 Nm at 5,500 rpm. All four variants feature a CVT transmission, providing a smooth acceleration.

Claiming the title of the most expensive Vespa scooter on offer in India, the new SXL and VXL range are loaded with features. It gets 5 spoke stylish alloys which are finished in black paint for the SXL range and finished in silver for the VXL range, a digital / analogue console, broader tubeless tyres (110-70/11 Front and 120-70/10 Rear), a range of new accessories, monocoque full – steel body construction (Overall Dimensions (LXBXH) – 1770 x 690 x 1140), 200 mm ventilated disc brake in the front, aircraft derived single side arm front suspension, hydraulic rear suspension, auto ignition, stabilizing torque for accurate steering, low speed balance and high speed stability.
