The electric scooter market in India has grown considerably more than what was initially speculated. To carve a prominent piece of this growing chunk, many OEMs are entering the market with compelling products. Vinfast is set to be one of those OEMs with enticing products to tap into this high potential segment.
The Vietnamese company has established a local manufacturing facility in India in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. After making a grand debut in the electric car segment, Vinfast is set to become a major player in India’s electric scooter segment with dedicated India-specific products. Let’s check out the details.
Vinfast Electric Scooters India
Where a launch timeline is concerned, Vinfast electric scooters are set to make some noise in Indian market some time around H2 of 2026. Festive season could prove to be the right time to make a big impact on Indian buyers. The company already has quite a few electric scooters in their global portfolio.

As per Vinfast Asia CEO, Pham Sanh Chau, the company is looking for dedicated products made specifically for Indian market, considering the local factors. Some of these factors are local infrastructure, usage patterns, price sensitivity and competitors. This way, Vinfast might be able to bring down costs and strike a competitive price point.
Vinfast is already in talks with multiple Indian vendors to localize as much components as possible. These might include battery packs, motors, steel for BIW parts and beyond. The company could enroll into Indian Government’s incentive programmes like PLI and PM E-DRIVE, depending on the required factors.
Manufactured in Tamil Nadu
Currently, Vinfast has a dedicated manufacturing line at their Thoothukudi plant in Tamil Nadu for electric cars. This is where VF6 and VF7 SUVs along with their upcoming Limo Green electric MPVs are manufactured. This electric car assembly line is being ramped up to meet a capacity of 1.5 lakh vehicles per annum.

At the same facility, Vinfast will have a much more profound 2W manufacturing line with a projected annual capacity of around 1 Million units per annum (10 lakh). The first of these India-specific Vinfast scooters might hit the market sometime in H2 of 2026. Obvious rivals will be Bajaj Chetak, TVS iQube, Ather Energy and others.
