Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. achieved a sales growth of 12.2% in the month of August 2016 compared to the same month last year. The firm managed to despatch 1.32 lakh units last month as against 1.17 lakh units in August 2015.
Domestic sales stood at 1.19 lakh units, an increase of 12.3%, while exports grew by 10.8% at 12,280 units. The growth was primarily lead by the Maruti Vitara Brezza and Ciaz.
The Ciaz too contributed significantly to the sales growth in August 2016.In the UV segment, Maruti managed to clock sales of 16,806 units, representing a growth of 114.5% as against previous August. In addition to the brisk selling Vitara Brezza, the S-Cross too contributed to this spurt.
The Ciaz’s segment-topping performance in mid-size category also helped Maruti to post an impressive overall growth. However, the company has been struggling to maintain momentum in a segment that has always been its stronghold – the A-segment. The Alto and WagonR segment has posted a negative growth of 6%.
The upcoming Ignis is expected to provide further boost to Maruti’s sales momentum.Moving forward, the company is gearing up to launch the eagerly anticipated Ignis micro-crossover which will sit below the Vitara Brezza. It will be positioned alongside the Baleno as a viable alternative within the brand.

The Ignis is expected to provide another significant boost in the automaker’s sales momentum in the coming months. The company is waiting for Suzuki’s new Gujarat car plant that is slated to become operational in early 2017.
