It was in 1934 that Adolf Hitler told Ferdinand Porsche, founder of Porsche Gmbh (the company which is also the largest shareholder of Volkswagen AG), to built Volkswagen (“people’s car”). This resulted in the birth of what we know today as Beetle.
On sale since 1938, Volkswagen Beetle has managed to register over 20 million in sales globally, most of which were sold in Germany. The latest generation of VW Beetle is now all-set to be launched in India, and the company has just opened the order books online at http://bookmybeetle.in/
Powered by a 1.4 liter TSI four cylinder engine generating 150 PS power, new Beetle will be offered in a choice of four colors in India. These are – Habanero Orange, Oryx White, Tornado Red, and Blue Silk. Mated to a 7 speed DSG gearbox, VW India will be importing Beetle as CBUs. Full list of features on offer with new Beetle is as below:
Discontinued about 2 years ago from the Indian auto industry due to low sales, Volkswagen hopes to sell more numbers this time. The reason being, the market has matured for expensive small cars. Premium hatchback sales in the country have grown, which has opened the doors for cars like Mercedes A Class, B Class, BMW 1 Series, Fiat 500, etc. This has resulted in Volkswagen bringing the Beetle back to India.
Once launched, expect the VW Beetle to command a price tag in the range of INR 25.
