Volkswagen India reports 11.4% car production increase in 2014
Volkswagen in India reports 11.4% increase in production in 2014 over 2013 supported by demand from export markets in over 32 countries across 3 continents. Mahesh Kodumudi President and Managing Director, Volkswagen India Private Limited says growth was mainly driven by export volumes, especially for Mexico with nearly every second car produced here in 2014 being exported to Mexico.
Surge in exports has helped Volkswagen India deal with volatility in the domestic market, and currency fluctuations. Exports have helped create a strong second leg of operations in India. The main focus still continues to be on the Indian market which has a great growth potential in the years to come.
Volkswagen Pune plant total production of 111,444 cars included Volkswagen Polo, Vento and Skoda Rapid. Vento production stood at 67,010 units, followed by 33,547 units of Polo and 10,887 units of Rapid. Export volumes grew by 308% over 2013 and contributed over 59.8% (66,660 units) of total production. Pune manufacturing facility began production of new Polo and updated versions of Vento and Rapid in 2014.
Andreas Lauenroth, Executive Director – Technical, Volkswagen India Private Limited says highest production at the plant has been achieved without compromising on quality. Acceptance of cars in matured export markets such as Mexico underlines international standards of manufacturing at the Indian production facility.
