Volkswagen India reports 57% increase in sales for May 2015

In looks, the new Volkswagen compact sedan will be inspired by the Polo / Vento; which are currently on sale.

Volkswagen India sales during May 2015 stood at 4,167 units.

Volkswagen India has reported an impressive 57 percent increase in sales during the month of May 2015. The company sold a total of 4,167 units during the past month as against 2,657 units in May 2014.

The increase in sales comes after the company successfully launched the new Jetta in February this year. Apart from this, the major reason for increase in sales is their new Polo hatchback, the only hatchback in the segment with 4 Star NCAP safety rating. The company now gets ready for the launch of Vento facelift (image above), which is expected to attract more sales in the coming months.

Last month saw Volkswagen India open new dealership outlets in Coimbatore and Mumbai. Apart from this, they also celebrated the production of their 500,000th car in India.

For 2016, the company is working on launching a new compact sedan. This ‘Made for India’ compact sedan will be based on the Volkswagen Polo and will measure under 4 meters in length. To be produced from the company‚Äôs Chakan plant, the car could be called the Volkswagen Bora and will be priced from INR 5 lakhs to INR 8 lakhs.

Once launched, it will compete with the Honda Amaze, Tata Zest, Hyundai XCent and Maruti Swift DZire . Engine specifications on board the upcoming new compact sedan will be the same as seen on the Polo in the form of a 1.2 liter TSI and 1.5 liter TDI mated to 5 speed manual transmission or 7 speed DSG.
