Volkswagen passenger car sales reached a sales volume of 2.79 million vehicles in the period from January to June 2012. This figure was higher by 10.2% as compared to 2.53 million vehicles sold in the same period in 2011. Sales in the month of June alone accounted for 498,600 units a rise of 13.7% as compared to 438,400 units sold in June 2011.
Sales of Volkswagen Passenger cars saw increased demand despite market conditions being unfavorable and uncertain. Sales in Southern European markets were positive in the first six months of this year. During the period the company sold 907,900 units, up 3.1% as compared to 881,000 units sold in the January to June 2011 period. However, the same situation did not prevail in Western Europe where a dip in sales to the extent of 4.7% was experienced.
Sales in Asia Pacific regions increased 15% from January to June 2012 where the company sold 1.09 million vehicles while 982,600 units were delivered to customers in China and Hong Kong. Sales in South America also experienced a 4% increase with numbers reaching 390,000 units.

The Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand handed over 2.79 (January-June 2011: 2.53; +10.2 percent) million vehicles to customers worldwide in the first half of this year. The brand also announced an increase for the month of June, when it delivered 498,600 (June 2011: 438,400; +13.7 percent) units. “The Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand developed well in the first half of the year despite the difficult situation in Western Europe. However, there is still considerable uncertainty in Europe which will continue into the second half of the year” Christian Klingler, Board Member for Sales and Marketing for the Volkswagen Group and the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand, said in Wolfsburg in Tuesday.
In spite of the difficult situation on markets in Southern Europe, Volkswagen Passenger Cars grew deliveries on the overall European market in the first six months to 907,900 (881,000; +3.1?percent) units. While the number of vehicles delivered in Western Europe (excluding Germany) fell slightly to 464,300 (487,100; -4.7?percent), deliveries in Central and Eastern Europe rose by a substantial 45.2?percent to 134,000 (92,300) vehicles. Deliveries in Russia continued to develop at a high level, totaling 81,100 (45,500; +78.1?percent) units. In the home market of Germany, Volkswagen Passenger Cars handed over 309,700 (301,700; +2.6?percent) vehicles to customers.
The Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand continued to grow outside Europe. In the Asia-Pacific region, the brand increased deliveries by 15.0?percent in the period to June, handing over 1.09 (0.95) million vehicles to customers. 982,600 (852,800; +15.2?percent) units were delivered in China (incl. Hong Kong), the region’s largest single market, during the same period. The brand also developed well on the American continent. Deliveries by Volkswagen Passenger Cars in the North America region grew 24.2?percent to 295,300 (237,700) vehicles, of which 208,700 (154,100; +35.4?percent) models were handed over to customers in the United States. In the South America region, deliveries increased by 4.0?percent to 390,900 (375,800) units.
