German car makers Volkswagen AG have seen encouraging results during the period January to July 2012 in an otherwise difficult market situation all across Europe. Volkswagen Passenger Cars sales were up 12% on the year in July largely due to positive trends both in Central and Eastern Europe. During July 2012, Volkswagen Passenger Cars delivered 468,300 units as compared to 418,600 in the month of July 2011.
In fact the period January to July itself has seen brand sales increase by 10.4%. During this seven month period, sales stood at 3.26 million units as against 2.95 million cars during the same period in the previous year. European markets saw sales of 1.05 million vehicles during first seven months of 2012 as compared to 1.02 million vehicles in the same period in 2011.
Where sales in Asia Pacific were concerned, deliveries increased by 15.1% in the period January to July 2012. Volkswagen sold 1.27 million units in China and Hong Kong as compared to 0.99 million units in the period January to July 2011. The same trend continued in North American markets where Volkswagen deliveries increased by 23.4% to 346,700 units, while in South American Markets sales increased by 6.4% to 472,7000 units.

VOLKSWAGEN DELIVERS MORE CARS IN PERIOD TO JULY / +10.4 PER CENT
Wolfsburg, August 22, 2012 – The Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand handed over 3.26 (January-July 2011: 2.95; +10.4 per cent) million vehicles to customers worldwide from January to July. The brand recorded an increase of 11.9 per cent to 468,300 (July 2011: 418,600) units for the month of July. “The Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand has grown global deliveries further despite the continued difficultmarket situation, above all in Western Europe”, Christian Klingler,Board Member for Sales and Marketing for the Volkswagen Groupand the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand, said in Wolfsburg on Wednesday.
The Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand handed over 1.05 (1.02; +2.5 per cent) million vehicles to customers on the overall European market in the first seven months of the year. This contrasted with the situation in Western Europe (excluding Germany), where deliveries were 5.0 per cent down on the comparable prior-year period as a result of the current market situation and totalled 528,200 (556,200) units. The trend in Central and Eastern Europe was noticeably positive, with a 40.4 per cent rise to 157,100 (111,900). Deliveries in Russia continued to develop at a high level and ran at 95,600 (56,500; +69.2 per cent) units. In the home market of Germany, Volkswagen Passenger Cars handed over 361,400 (352,700; +2.5 per cent) vehicles to customers.
In the Asia-Pacific region, the brand grew deliveries 15.1 per cent in the period to July, handing over 1.27 (1.10) million units. 1.14 (0.99; +15.2 percent) million vehicles were delivered in China (incl. Hong Kong), the region’s largest single market, during the same period. Volkswagen Passenger Cars also continued to develop very well on the American continent. Deliveries in the North America region grew 23.4 per cent to 346,700 (280,900) vehicles. At 245,700 (183,200; +34.1 per cent), the number of vehicles handed over to customers in the United States, the region’s largest single market, was also noticeably higher than the comparable prior-year period. In the South America region, deliveries rose by 6.4 per cent to 472,700 (444,100) units.
