India is set to get the new Polo hatchback on 15th July. First unveiled earlier this year, Polo facelift for India will come with an option of both petrol and diesel engine. What has caused excitement, is the edition of a new 1.5l diesel engine, which replaces the older 1.6l mill.

The other tune in diesel, the GT TDI, as predicted, generates 105 PS at 4,400 rpm and 250 Nm torque at 1,500 – 2,500 rpm.

It is also confirmed that apart from this, there will also be two more engine tunes, both in petrol. This will be 1.2l TSI generating 105 PS at 5,000 rpm and 175 Nm torque between 1,500 – 4,100 rpm. Other petrol engine variant will be a 1.2l MPI generating 75 PS at 5,400 rpm and 110 Nm torque at 3,750 rpm.

Not only this will attract a lower excise duty as compared to that of its predecessor, it will also result in making the price more affordable. Earlier this month, Rush Lane reader spotted a total of 8 VW cars testing this new engine. These fleet of cars included 5 Vento, 2 Polo and 1 Rapid. This confirms that in the near future, both Vento and Rapid will also feature the same engine.
