Volkswagen T-Cross SUV passes crash test with 5 star rating

Volkswagen T-Cross SUV has scored 5 stars both in Adult and Child Occupant Protection tests conducted by Latin New Car Assessment Program (NCAP). In adult occupant safety, the score stood at 14.62 out of 16 points for front off set crass and 16 out of 16 in side crash tests. In child occupant safety, scores stood at 21.77 out of 24 points with front offset crash tests conducted at 64 kmph and side tests conducted at 50 kmph.

Volkswagen T-Cross SUV body shell was certified as stable following these front, side and side pole impact tests while the footwell area was also rated as stable. The SUV performed well and offered good protection to both driver and passengers head and neck area along with adequate protection to driver’s chest.

The recently launched Volkswagen T-Cross comes in with a host of safety features. It gets 6 airbags as standard along with ESC for all variants. The model also complied with electronic stability control test requirements. For child occupant protection it gets approved anchorages allowing for installation of child restraint systems for older children facing towards the rear. It also sports passenger airbag disconnection switch. Volkswagen T-Cross also received a Latin NCAP Advanced Award for Pedestrian Protection and Multi Collision Braking technology.

Based on an MQB A0 platform, Volkswagen T-Cross SUV will also be making its way to India in 2020, where it will be positioned on the MQB A0 IN platform. It will come with some changes and customization, for our markets. It borrows design cues from the T-Roc SUV. Front design features include a large three slat grille with the VW logo, LED headlamps with DRLs, large wheels and flared arches offering high ground clearance and tail lamps which are interconnected with a gloss black panel.

Volkswagen T-Cross is offered in a new petrol engine. This 1.5 liter petrol engine from the TSI EVO range, offers 130 bhp power. The engine comes in with cylinder deactivation technology which enhances fuel efficiency by 10 percent.

The Volkswagen T-Cross which will enter the highly competitive and rapidly growing D segment SUV market in India; will have to face competition from the likes of Hyundai Creta.
