Volkswagen India has officially revealed the exterior design and key highlights of its upcoming flagship SUV, Volkswagen Tayron R-Line, ahead of its India launch scheduled for Q1 2026. The Tayron R-Line will become Volkswagen’s only 7-seater SUV in the country, positioned above the Tiguan R-Line and replacing the role earlier played by the now-discontinued Tiguan Allspace.
Flagship 7-Seater with R-Line Sporty Identity
The Tayron R-Line will be brought to India via the CKD route and assembled locally at Volkswagen’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar facility. Globally, the Tayron replaced the Tiguan Allspace and is essentially a long-wheelbase version of the second-gen Tiguan, tailored to offer three-row seating. Measuring close to 4.8 metres in length with a 2,789 mm wheelbase, the Tayron is clearly aimed at buyers seeking space, presence, and premium appeal in the full-size SUV segment.

Bold Exterior Design and Road Presence
As revealed in the latest official images, the Tayron R-Line carries Volkswagen’s evolved global SUV design language. It features a muscular silhouette, strong shoulder lines, and sporty R-Line-specific detailing. Highlights include illuminated VW logos at the front and rear, connected LED light signatures, sleek IQ.Light LED headlamps, and distinctive LED tail lamps. The SUV rides on large 19-inch Coventry alloy wheels, further enhancing its premium stance and road presence.
Spacious Cabin and Premium Interiors
Inside, the Tayron R-Line adopts a clean, digital-first layout similar to the latest Tiguan R-Line. The horizontal dashboard design enhances the sense of width, while a new floating 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system takes centre stage, paired with a fully digital cockpit and head-up display. As a true 7-seater, the Tayron makes full use of its long wheelbase to offer generous space across all three rows.

Volkswagen has confirmed premium ergoActive Plus front seats with Varenna leather upholstery, offering features like 10-point pressure massage and active ventilation. A panoramic sunroof further adds to the airy cabin experience. With the third row folded, boot space can go up to an impressive 850 litres, while even with all seats up, the Tayron promises usable luggage capacity.
Safety and Global Credentials
The Tayron R-Line arrives in India with strong global credentials. It has already earned a 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating and won the prestigious Golden Steering Wheel 2025 award in Europe for Best Family Car. These accolades underline Volkswagen’s focus on safety, design quality, and everyday usability for family-oriented buyers.

Powertrain Expectations and Rivals
Powering the India-spec Tayron R-Line is expected to be the familiar 2.0-litre TSI EVO turbo-petrol engine, producing around 204 PS and 320 Nm of torque. This engine will be paired with a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission and Volkswagen’s 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system. Once launched, the Tayron R-Line will take on rivals such as Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian, and other premium three-row SUVs in the segment.
With its combination of German engineering, strong safety credentials, spacious three-row layout, and sporty R-Line identity, the Volkswagen Tayron R-Line is set to become the brand’s new flagship offering for Indian customers.
