Volkswagen India has just officially confirmed the launch of its flagship SUV for the country in the form of Tayron R-Line. This will be VW’s only 7-seater SUV in India after Tiguan Allspace was discontinued at the end of 2021. It will only be launched in R-Line version blending sophistication and sporty attire. Let’s take a closer look.
Volkswagen Tayron R-Line India Launch
After launching Tiguan R-Line in India, Volkswagen India has just confirmed the launch of Tayron R-Line for Q1 of 2026. It will be positioned as the brand’s flagship offering to rival the likes of Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian and others. Tayron R-Line will be brought into India via CKD route with assembly operations to happen at Chatrapati Sambhajinagar facility.

Tayron used to be a China exclusive nameplate which became a global SUV in 2024 as it was positioned as a replacement to Tiguan Allspace. One can say that Tayron is a long wheelbase version of Mark II Tiguan with a slight redesign to fit the proportions of a longer vehicle. Tayron’s length is close to 4.8m and it packs a wheelbase close to 2.8m in length.
This extra length is to accommodate third-row seating, which Tiguan R-Line currently lacks. It will cater to Indian SUV buyers looking for luxury of space, premium appeal and comfort. It will be launched in R-Line version that aims to blend dynamic aesthetics with space and comfort along with dependable reliability.

Volkswagen Tayron R-Line aims to set a new benchmark in its segment where sportiness and sophistication are concerned. It was officially teased sometime ago and we can illuminated front and rear VW logos, connected lighting elements at the front and rear along with a hint of their LED headlights and tail lights.

What to expect?
Boot space can go till 850L and 345L with third row seats up. On the inside, Volkswagen Tayron R-Line could be very similar to Tiguan R-Line, except for its third row seating. In that regard, we can expect India-spec Tayron R-Line to offer similar 15-inch free-standing touchscreen infotainment screen, Digital Cockpit and HUD as Tiguan R-Line.

Sports seats, microfibre leatherette upholstery, premium materials, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless charging pad, sporty R-Line steering, R-Line badges, power-adjustable and ventilated front seats with memory function, massaging seats, 3-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, premium Harman audio and sophisticated Level-2 ADAS could be part of the equipment list.

Powering the Volkswagen Tayron R-Line will be the same 2.0L TSI EVO Turbo Petrol engine that is capable of cranking out 204 PS of peak power and 320 Nm of peak torque, mated to a quick shifting 7-speed DSG transmission and a 4MOTION AWD system for excellent dynamics on the road and all-wheel traction off the road. Launch will happen in Q1 2026.
