Volkswagen has opened a new training academy in West Bengal. This academy is being set up in association with JIS Group which already operates 17 engineering colleges in the state. The new training academy has set a target to train over 1000 automobile engineers a year, which will contribute to the Volkswagen endeavor to step up after sales service facilities.
Volkswagen has already set up 12 JVs across India to initiate training academies while more such training academies are being planned in the future. VW has announced that their training academies will touch 25 by 2015 and will cater to the needs of participants and channel partners in the East. At the same time, VW India is also expanding their dealer networks in the country. Volkswagen has two plants, one in Pune and the other in Aurangabad with a head office in Mumbai. The company has a total of 220 dealers in India.
The new academy in Kolkata is spread over an area of 6000 sq ft with practice areas, classrooms and offices. The aim is to impart knowledge primarily to dealers while it will also be teaching students of engineering departments. The academy has capacity to train around 1000 participants per year in both theory and practice sessions. Last week, Volkswagen unveiled a coffee table book here, India’s 100 Best Destinations. The book entails journeys that feature VW vehicles, Polo, Vento, Passat and Touareg.
