Volta Zap is India’s first crossover electric cycle, pre-bookings open

Volta Zap from Chennai steps in to cater to the new government policy to tackle vehicular pollution on a war footing.

Claiming to be India’s first crossover electric cycle, Volta Zap is designed and produced by Volta Motors of Chennai. This crossover electric cycle was showcased at Bangalore White Orchid Convention Centre where visitors were also offered free rides.

Even as the company has kept launch date and price details secret, they have started accepting pre-orders online.

Volta Zap, a part of the ‘Make in India’ policy, is designed and developed by designers and engineers at Volta Motors. The bike exudes style and offers capabilities to tackle Indian road and climatic conditions.

Volta Zap offers a biking range of 60 kms on a single charge without pedaling. It gets regenerative charging for an extended range while operating costs are slated to be at 7 paise per km. Volta Zap battery weighs 3 kgs and is said to be the lightest battery on an e-bike to date.

The new electric bike utilizes lithium technology while the battery can also be used as a power bank for charging phones, laptops and tablets. The battery fits into a box frame allowing for quick fitting and removal. Volta Zap offers Pedal Assist with 3 full cycle wheel rotation for every pedal rotation.

Volta Zap is presented in a range of color options while features include front suspension forks, hub motors and digital displays. It also gets integrated facilities for smart phones, customized body panels and LED reflectors. However Volta Zap has no pillion seat and this could be the only factor that could work to its disadvantage.

Volta Zap has opened for bookings on Volta Motors official website and even as final pricing has not been revealed, it is estimated to be priced at around INR 30,000.
