Rod Anderson, Station Sergeant says the pilot project ensures direct feedback on how the S60 performs from officers out on the road. Using it in real time situations will help obtain essential data across varied driving conditions. The Volvo S60 T6 with Polestar performance optimisation becomes part of the ACT Policing Traffic Operations fleet.
Purpose built, the Volvo S60 T6 is required to perform to a high level in dynamic, high stress environments. Station Sergeant Anderson adds, they are particularly interested in officers’ opinions on the S60’s AWD capability. Evaluations will be made to determine what advantages it offers over the current ACT Policing Traffic Operations rear-wheel drive fleet.
The first Volvo S60 T6 R-Design AWD sedan is under loan from Volvo Australia to test suitability as a police vehicle. ACTP Traffic Operations will assess a range of fleet alternatives over the next 12-18 months to compare results with other Australasian police jurisdictions through the ANZPAA Police Vehicle Focus Group.
The 3.0-litre, six-cylinder turbocharged Volvo S60 T6 is being introduced in the fleet for an extended period, and has been decked in suitable ACT Policing Traffic Operations livery. The special test vehicle is fitted with a lightbar, siren and police digital radio. Volvo is keen on vehicle feedback and will work with ACT Policing to develop vehicle suitability to suit police operation needs. In Sweden, Volvo has provided police vehicles since 1929.
