The front passenger seat has been eliminated to enhance the sense of space and light for the rear occupants.

Buoyed by the positive response received by the Vovo XC90 Lounge Console Seats, the Chinese-owned Swedish car maker has extended the uber luxurious feature to the new S90 premium sedan as well. Showcased at the ongoing 2016 Beijing Auto Show, the Lounge Console Seats are designed to pamper rear passengers.

The seating layout has ditched the front passenger seat in favor of increased front visibility and room. Volvo says that this arrangement brings a calming effect to the cabin. The space vacated by the front passenger seat is now occupied by a foot board which has heating function.

A comprehensive rear centre control panel allows the occupants to play with the heating and cooling functions for the cup holders, arm rest refrigerator, seat recliner, audio system and massage functions. The Lounge Console seats also offer large screens at the rear for entertainment (can be used to stream Netflix content) and a foldable work desk.

The S90 which is an upmarket replacement for the S80 is the second car to be based on Volvo’s Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) and is also the second product to adopt the brand’s transformed design language. Like the XC90, the S90 employs an array of VEA 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged direction injection petrol and diesel engines. Higher variants get hybrid assistance.
