Volvo V40 hatchback bears strong similarities to Volvo Cross Country crossover, which is already on sale in India since 2013.

Volvo V40 hatchback is being brought into India via CBU route. It will be offered in two trims, Kinetic and R-Design. V40 Kinetic is priced at Rs 24.75 lakhs while the V40 R-Design is priced at Rs 27.7 lakhs. All prices are ex-showroom, New Delhi.

Volvo V40 hatchback will be powered by the same diesel engine as seen on the Cross Country. This will be in the form of 2.0l D3 diesel four cylinder generating 152 PS peak power at 3,750 rpm and 350 Nm peak torque at 1,700-3,000 rpm. The engine sends power to front wheels via a 6 speed automatic transmission. Mileage claimed is at 16.8 kmpl.

Unlike V40 Cross Country, which is also available with a petrol T4 engine (since April 2015), the V40 hatchback will only get one diesel engine as of now. A petrol engine is in the pipeline, and will be launched at a later stage.

Basic construction in the Volvo V40 hatchback and Cross Country remains the same. Differences exist where external styling is concerned. The V40 hatchback is sleeker and more elegant as compared to its robust and aggressive Cross Country.
