Volvo Cars India has launched the new T4 R-Design variant of the XC40 SUV at an ex-showroom price of Rs 39.9 lakh. The BS6 petrol 5-seater SUV is aimed to be a strong player in the niche, yet active, entry-level petrol-powered luxury SUV market in India.
Based on the Swedish brand’s proven Compact Modular Architecture (CMA), the Volvo XC40 (as well as the bigger XC models) is one of the best-looking SUVs on the market today. The iconic ‘Thor’s hammer’ LED headlamp and dropping tail lamp designs have many admirers across the world. Furthermore, the interiors of a modern-day Volvo product is arguably the best in its class.
Besides making good-looking products, Volvo has a long-standing commitment to passenger safety. In fact, Volvo is the automotive brand that pioneered the three-point seat belts we see in our cars today, thanks to the Swedish engineer, Nils Bohlin.
For the modern age, the engineers at Volvo have loaded the XC40 with advanced safety features such as seven airbags as standard, radar-based cruise control, City Safety with Steering Assist, On-coming Lane Mitigation, Run-off Road Protection and a host of other driving aids/assists.
On the inside, the 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system and 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster open doors to a lot of intuitive and innovative functions. The 14-speaker 600W Harmon Kardon audio system, leather seats and panoramic roof aid in giving a splendid driving experience.
Coming to the engine department, the XC40 T4 R-Design gets a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine capable of making 190bhp and 300Nm of torque. This comes mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission that drives the front wheels.
Volvo claims that the XC40 is the best-equipped compact luxury-SUV in its segment and we do not have the slightest doubt. Bookings have already started across the brand’s dealership network in the country and you can have yours in either one of the six colours on offer: Crystal White Pearl, Bursting Blue, Glacier Silver, Onyx Black, Thunder Grey and Fusion Red.
At present, Volvo Car India has a six-model product portfolio that includes two sedans (S60 and S90), three SUVs (XC40, XC60 and XC90) and one wagon crossover (V90 Cross Country). The XC90 is available in two plug-in hybrid avatars as well.
