Volvo XC60 beats Audi Q5 and BMW X3 to become best selling compact SUV in Europe

Surprisingly ahead in sales, Volvo XC60 has turned out to be the best selling compact premium SUV in Europe. It has beaten the likes of Range Rover Evoque, Audi Q5, BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLK, BMW X4, Land Rover Discovery Sport, Porsche Macan and Lexus NX.

First launched in 2009, the current generation Volvo XC60 is also the first generation.

Factors which resulted in Volvo XC60 taking the top spot are many, including outstanding performance, fuel efficiency and low auto emission. The most successful premium compact SUV has seen increasing demand ever since it was launched 7 years ago with success being attributed to its 4 cylinder 2.0 liter Drive-E diesel engine. This engine is capable of better fuel efficiency and auto emissions at 117 gms of CO2 per km due to which the XC60 is able to cash in on lower taxation in most European countries.

Every customer’s demand from a premium compact SUV is seen on board the Volvo XC60 SUV, be it performance, cabin space, ride and comfort. The Volvo XC60 outperforms even the BMW X3 and Audi Q5. It receives 230mm ground clearance with is unlike that seen on some even larger SUVs while on board equipment and premium comforts are outstanding.

Built on the Volvo P3 platform, the SUV is offered in a range of petrol and diesel engine options.

Volvo XC60 has come a long way from 2013 when it was the 4th best selling compact SUV in Europe and positioned behind the Range Rover Evoque, Audi Q5 and BMW X3. 2014 saw the Volvo XC60 SUV at the helm becoming Europe’s best selling car with sales of 62,845 units as compared to Audi Q5 which saw sales of 60,679, Land Rover Range Rover Evoque of which 50,838 units were sold and BMW X3 which experience sales to the tune of 48,229 units.
