To be produced from their plant in Chakan near Pune, Volkswagen India is gearing up to enter the compact sedan segment with their new car, which is reportedly going to be called Ameo upon launch. To be unveiled globally on the 2nd of February, new VW Ameo will also be on display at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo from 5-9 February 2016.
Based on the Polo / Vento platform, Volkswagen India is looking at increasing their sales in the country with the launch of new Ameo. Sales of VW India have declined for the third consecutive year. Apart from this, the German brand which is trying to move forward from the Dieselgate scandal.
Built at an investment of INR 720 crore, VW Ameo will be offered in a choice of petrol and diesel engine options. Petrol variants will feature 1.2 liter 3-cyl offering 75 PS and 110 Nm while diesel variants will be powered by 1.5 liter 4-cyl generating 90 PS and 230 Nm torque. Both variants will be mated to five speed MT.
VW is also expected to offer GT variants of Ameo. GT TSI will be powered same 1.2 liter petrol engine, but tuned to deliver 105 PS and 175 Nm via 7 speed DSG while GT TDI 1.5 liter will deliver 105 PS and 250 Nm via 5 MT.
