VW Ameo subcompact sedan makes its official debut in India today, before it goes on display at the 2016 Auto Expo tomorrow. Designed especially for buyers in India, the new Volkswagen Ameo comes in with a high level of localization and is produced at the company plant in Chakan near Pune.
Exuding best in class safety facilities the new VW Ameo also gets quality interiors and styling cues borrowed from the VW Polo hatchback and Vento sedan while it gets same engine specs as seen on the Polo. These include a 1.2 liter MPI petrol engine and a 1.5 liter TDi diesel engine. While the petrol option will offer 75 PS power and 110 Nm torque, the diesel engine will be capable of 90 PS power and 230 Nm torque. It is also expected that a 1.2 liter four cylinder TSI petrol engine mated to a 7 speed DSG could be introduced on top spec variant.
The word Ameo is derived from the Latin word ‘Amo’ which means ‘I Love’ and it is built on the Polo PQ25 platform. The Volkswagen Ameo sports a new front bumper and sharper bonnet as compared to that seen on the Polo while interiors are seen in a black and beige color scheme with a central console with silver accents, a multifunction 3 spoke steering wheel and 7” central infotainment system.
Promising best in class safety and comfort features; the new VW Ameo will compete against the likes of Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent, Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire and Ford Figo Aspire. Watch the LIVE webcast below to watch the global unveiling of VW Ameo, where price and more details will be revealed.
