VW Ameo is name of the new compact sedan for India – Official

Teased only yesterday, in an official video, the name of VW India’s upcoming sub 4 meter compact sedan has been revealed, and it is Ameo. New VW Ameo as per the company will be the first VW car to be made for India (Vento probably is being disowned).

To be offered in a choice of petrol and diesel engine option, same as the one’s on offer with existing Polo hatchback in India, Ameo project has costed the company INR 720 crore. To be produced from company plant in Chakan near Pune, launch of VW Ameo is expected to take place soon after the 2016 Auto Expo.

The teaser photo reveals VW Ameo’s taillight and to an extent, its rear design. The taillamp houses side indicator and also the ‘reverse gear engaged’ light.

Speaking about the name, VW India says – “Derived from the Latin word ‘Amo’, meaning ‘I love’, Volkswagen Ameo is a truly special offering that combines the brand values of best-in-class safety features, build quality and a great driving experience. The design language is underlined by general bursts of emotion, conceptualized to move the body, mind and soul. By marking its entry into the dynamic compact sedan space, the Volkswagen Ameo is expected to be a game changer for the brand in India.”

Based on the same platform as the Polo / Vento, Ameo will also share multiple components with the siblings. Expected to be 3995 mm long, to make full use of the under 4 meter rule, VW Ameo is aimed at the likes of Maruti Dzire, Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent, Tata Zest, etc.

This is a segment which accounts for about 30,000 units every month. With the launch of Ameo, Volkswagen India is aiming at increasing their sales figures in the country. More details will be revealed when the car is officially reveled on the 2nd Feb. Stay tuned to Rushlane as we bring you LIVE launch coverage from the launch floor in New Delhi.
