The sedan will be launched in mid-2016 in both petrol and diesel avatars.

The VW Ameo compact sedan which made its world premiere a day prior to the 2016 Auto Expo in Delhi has been caught on tape near Pune by our ardent reader Javed Sheikh. This is the first time the sedan has been spotted without any camouflage on the public road.

The sub-4 metre sedan which is positioned between the Polo and Vento is set to be launched in mid-2016. The car is tailor-made for the Indian market and will be pitted against the likes of Maruti Dzire, Ford Figo Aspire, Hyundai Xent and Tata Zest. Down the line, Chevrolet Essentia (Beat sedan) will also join the hotly contested segment.

The VW Ameo is powered by 1.2-litre three-cylinder MPFI petrol and 1.5-litre TDI diesel engines, both of which are derived from the Polo. The company is yet to reveal the technical specifications of the powertrain.

In terms of styling, the Ameo is essentially a stunted version of the Vento. Even the interiors are identical to the Polo/Vento twins. The top-of-line variant comes packed with ABS, dual airbags, reverse parking camera with sensor, touchscreen infotainment system with MirrorLink and iPod connectivity, Leather wrapped multi function steering wheel, rain sensing wipers, cruise control and automatic climate control.
