Volkswagen India announced yesterday that the name of their new compact sedan will be Ameo, derived from a Latin word – Amo, meaning ‘I love’. Set for a global reveal on 2nd February in Delhi, Volkswagen India today revealed that the Ameo has headed out from the Pune plant for the grand showcase.
To be offered in a choice of petrol and diesel engines, Volkswagen Ameo is expected to be launched a few weeks after the its debut. Exclusively manufactured at VW India’s plant in Pune, Ameo has been built at an investment of INR 720 crore.
Once launched, it will compete with the likes of Maruti Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent, Tata Zest and the likes. This segment seen approximately 30,000 to 35,000 units every month. VW India hopes to increase sales with the launch of Ameo.
Based on the same platform as Vento / Polo, VW Ameo will also be sharing multiple parts with the older siblings. Spied on test on multiple occasions, Ameo gets interiors similar to Vento / Polo.

Speaking about engine options, petrol engine will be in the form of 1.2 liter while diesel will be seen in the form of 1.5 liter. Apart from the five speed manual gearbox, there is also going to be on offer a 7 speed DSG on board the petrol GT TSI variant.
