Volkswagen India is actively testing its new VW Polo GTI in 3-door and 5-door variants. Officially unveiled at the Delhi Auto Expo earlier this year, VW Polo GTI is slated for launch during the second half of this year. Recently, both the 3-door and 5-door variants of the hot hatch were seen on test in Pune.
Volkswagen Polo GTI is powered by a 1.8 liter turbocharged petrol engine offering 189 bhp peak power at 6,200 rpm and 250 Nm torque at 1,250 rpm.
The engine will be mated to a 7-speed dual clutch DSG automatic gearbox in India, while a 6 speed manual transmission is also on offer, but it will not be on offer in India. This engine will allow acceleration from 0 to 100 kmph in 6.7 seconds and a top speed of 237 kmph. Woohoo.
Exterior features will include LED DRL headlamps, a honeycomb grille, GTI badging and sporty new bumpers. It will also receive red brake calipers, red tail lamp cluster and side skirts along with rear spoiler, twin exhaust pipes and diffuser.
VW Polo GTI will sit on 17” alloy wheels clad in 215/40 tyres. Interiors will sport a new steering wheel design and instrument cluster along with sports seats while where safety features are concerned, the Polo GTI will come in with ABS, EBD and Hill hold along with airbags.
Set to be the most powerful hatchback in India, the new VW Polo GTI will be priced over INR 20 lakhs as it will be brought into the country via the CBU route.There will be no direct competition for the Polo GTI in India.
