New Volkswagen Polo GTI 192 PS India launch price INR 26 lakh

VW Polo GTI 2016 Auto Expo

After months of testing on India roads, the new VW Polo GTI was finally launched in India today. Only 99 units are on offer.

Showcased earlier this year at the 2016 Auto Expo to enthusiasts in India, Volkswagen finally announced the launch of Polo GTI today.

Power comes from a 1.8-litre TSI four-cylinder turbo petrol motor which is wrung to produce 192 PS and 250 Nm of torque when mated to a automatic 7 speed DSG. 0-100 kmph comes in just 7.2 seconds. This combo is no doubt an enthusiast’s dream. In India, it will only be sold as a 3-door.

While the existing Polo GT TSI and TDI variants do qualify as hot hatchbacks by the segment standards, Polo GTI is the real deal with performance which can’t be matched by any other hatchback in India. It’s not only about sheer power, for GTI’s suspension, steering and electronic nannies are tuned to offer a driver-centric character. The hatchback comes equipped with an Extended Electronic Slip Differential for those razor sharp turn-ins and traction control.

Visually, the meaner version of Polo can be identified by a new sporty bumper, optional LED headlights (like the ones featured in the test mule), the signature red underlining on the front grille, skirts all around, larger alloy wheels and a black diffuser with twin exhaust tips.
