The VW Polo GTI hot hatchback has finally received green light for its India launch. Interestingly, the car will be launched in the country in its three-door avatar and will be imported as a CBU.
Talking to Autocar India, Michael Mayer, Director, VW Passenger Cars India, stated:
We want to keep it very pure; a hot hatch that offers performance, technology and comfort. I know that there is a compromise here, but people who buy this car, which is a fairly costly car, will have other cars in their garage to load five people on a regular basis.
Being a CBU import, the Polo GTI is expected to be retailed over INR 20 lakhs. The German car maker will position the GTI variant as a brand shaper, targeting performance enthusiasts and hence won’t be expecting to sell it in big numbers.
The Polo GTI will be showcased at the Auto Expo 2016 to gather public opinion. Sales in India is expected to commence by September 2016 with bookings slated to commence shortly before the launch.
