As per witnesses’ claims, Ambika Vashisth (in the imae above) was talking on her mobile phone when she lost control of her vehicle and rammed the Honda Amaze into three pedestrians.
The incident took place at 1.30 pm on Tuesday afternoon at the Mula House Road near Ammunition Factory, Kirkee in Pune. Vashisth was on her way back from picking her child from school when the accident occurred.
The deceased has been identified as Nandabai Ramdas Pardeshi, 55 while the injured are Sulochana Pardesi, 55, and Shakuntala Kachi, 50. The three are residents of Shantinagar, Yerawada and work as gardeners on contract basis with the Ammunition Factory, Kirkee. They were returning back to work after their lunch break.
Vashisth escaped from the scene of the crime but was arrested by Military Police and handed over to Khadki police on Wednesday. She was brought before the magistrate court at Shivajinagar from where she was released on bail after furnishing surety of INR 15,000.
The car number UK-07 HP-1331 has been seized along with her driving license. FIR has been lodged under sections 279 (rash driving), 304A (causing death due to negligence), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections 184 (driving dangerously), 132 (duty of driver to stop in certain cases) and other relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act.
