French automaker Renault found three of its models on the list of 10 worst selling cars in India during the period 2014-15. It was the Renault Fluence executive sedan that topped the list with just 232 units sold during the year while 1,473 units of Scala and 2,301 units of Pulse were sold, and positioned in 7th and 10th position respectively.
Sales data as indicated by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) put the Ford Fiesta in No. 2 spot with 730 units sold during the period April 1, 2014 to March 31, 2015. Reasons for its lower than expected sales could be attributed to its high pricing at INR 8.5 lakhs coupled with the fact that it is being offered only with a diesel engine. The Ford Fiesta also faced recall of 3,072 units for rectification of glow plug control module which aggravated the situation even further.
In third spot on the list of 10 worst selling cars in India in FY15 was the Tata Manza midsized sedan, priced at INR 5.96 lakhs, with 1,311 units sold. These lower sales were despite the fact that heavy discounts were offered at company dealerships. Chevrolet Cruze and Spark were also on the list with 1,401 units and 1,431 units sold respectively with recalls of Cruze in December 2014 and January 2015 being possible reasons for its low sales.
