Wuling Motors which is a owned by the Chinese SAIC-GM joint venture has made its foray into the Indonesian market at the 2016 Gaikindo Indonesian Auto Show (GIIAS). The company announced its plans last year and its Indonesian manufacturing facility is currently under construction at West Java.
Wuling’s GIIAS stall has the latest version of the Hong Guang and Baojun 730 MPVs on display. It’s to be noted that the previous version of the Hong Guang is being sold in India as Chevrolet Enjoy. Production of the Enjoy in India is coming to an end due to poor market response.
The Hong Guang MPV which will be pitted against Indonesia’s best selling car, the Toyota Avanza, will be spearheading Wuling’s operations in the MPV-loving country. The Baojun 730 will be positioned as a more affordable alternative to the new Kijang Innova (Innova Crysta in India).
A detailed product plan and launch time frame would be shared later. Armed with a local manufacturing facility, Wuling would be planning to undercut its rivals significantly without compromising on features.
