Yamaha Alpha scooter recalled, to replace engine head O-Ring
Yamaha Motors is replacing the engine cylinder head O-Ring on its Alpha models. The replacements will be done at all Yamaha dealerships across the country. It will be carried out in a matter of three hours and will be done free of charge. If left unchecked could lead to oil leakage.
Yamaha Alpha which was launched at the 2014 Auto Expo earlier this year, is the company’s flagship scooter in India currently. It actively competes with the Suzuki Lets, TVS Jupiter and Honda Activa in the country and targets mainly male buyers.
Yamaha Alpha is powered by a 113 cc air cooled engine offering peak power of 7 hp and peak torque of 8.1 Nm while being mated to a CVT gearbox.This high utility city mover, weighs a total of 104 kgs and claims fuel efficiency of 62 kmpl. It is priced at INR 49,518 and is offered in five color options of White, Black, Grey, Purple and Red.
While the Yamaha Alpha is being recalled, the company has extensive plans for 2015 when they will shift focus back to motorcycles. Launch of a 126cc scooter is on the cards prior to which the much awaited Yamaha R25 is expected to go on sale at a launch price of about Rs 3 lakhs. Mid 2015 will see launch of the latest generation R1 which will make its way into India via the CBU route.
