Yamaha Motor India has launched the all-new BS6-compliant Fascino scooter in the market today. Compared to the existing BS4 model, the new Yamaha Fascino is brings in a host of improvements in terms of styling and features.

Price for base STD Drum Brake variant is Rs 66,430. Price for STD Disc Brake is Rs 68,930. Price for DLX Drum Brake is Rs 67,430 and price for DLX Disc Brake is Rs 69,930. Price of rival Honda Activa BS6 ranges from Rs 67,490 to Rs 74,490. All prices are ex-sh.

Speaking about styling, the first things to notice are the new colours. The gloss red paint and matte blue paint schemes are new and blend well with the black elements such as the wheels, grab rails and other plastic panels. For an added aesthetic appeal, there is a subtle chrome treatment in the middle as well.

The BS6 Yamaha Fascino was spotted a few times on public roads in a test mule avatar, over the past few weeks. However, the heavy camouflage acted as a barrier to seeing its main design elements. From these first images, it is also evident that the front apron has gone through an overhaul.

The Yamaha Fascino has a unique design in the world of Indian scooters. Everything curves and flows towards the rear end and is quite a fresh change from conventional scooter designs. However, the mechanical components are shared with other Yamaha scooters such as the Ray and Alpha.

In its outgoing BS4 format, the Yamaha Fascino is powered by a 113cc air-cooled SOHC single-cylinder engine that makes 7bhp and 8.1Nm of torque. In the scooter world, there are adequate figures and let’s face it, almost every CVT scooter on the market feels more or less the same in terms of riding experience.

BS6 norms are mandatory from the start of April 2020 and major automotive brands operating in every segment of the Indian market are trying hard to update their products to the new emission specifications ahead of the deadline. Often times, a great deal of re-work or re-engineering is required to make this happen.

For the same reason, Yamaha Motor India has chosen an all-new 125cc engine to power its new line of BS6 products for the coming year. To meet the emission norms, the company has ditched the current carburetted fueling system to new FI units.

The BS6 Yamaha Fascino gets a larger, more powerful 125 cc engine with FI. It claims to deliver 30% more power than the older BS4 motor. Output claimed is 8.2 PS and 9.7 Nm. Mileage claimed is 58 kmpl – which is 16% more than older BS4. It also gets Smart Motor Generator which delivers quiet engine start experience.

As expected, prices for the new BS6 Yamaha Fascino are higher than its BS4 predecessor which is currently sold at around Rs 58,000 ex-showroom. The new Yamaha Fascino will rival the likes of the Honda Activa 125, Suzuki Access 125, TVS Jupiter and Hero Destini 125.
