Yamaha announced the launch of their new 250 cc motorcycle in India early last year. This was the FZ 25. Later same year, the fully faired variant called Fazer 25 was launched. The flagship domestic motorcycles retails at Rs 1.19 lakh and Rs 1.29 lakh respectively. Both prices are ex-showroom New Delhi.
Now, Yamaha India has announced a recall which affects all the units of both these motorcycles sold till date in the country. This recall is done to rectify issue related to head cover bolt loosening. All motorcycles will be fixed free of cost at Yamaha authorized dealerships. Owners will be contacted individually.
Both these motorcycles are come without ABS. Expect ABS to be on offer later this year. ABS equipped FZ25 has already been launched in Brazil, where it is called Fazer 25. Now, to clear the confusion, what Brazil is calling as the Fazer 25, is the FZ25 in India. Brazilian spec Yamaha FZ25 comes with ABS and is priced in Brazil at BRL 14,990 (or INR 2.97 lakhs).
Yamaha FZ25 ABS is powered by a 249.5cc, single cylinder engine tweaked to now offer 21.6 PS peak power at 8,000 rpm and 20.6 Nm peak torque at 6,500 rpm and is mated to a 5 speed gearbox. The engine on the India spec model is capable of 20.6 PS power at 8,000 rpm and 20 Nm torque at 6,000 rpm.
ABS is offered as standard and the FZ25 in Brazil. It also gets telescopic front fork and monoshock at the rear. Disc brakes are seen at the front and rear which are also on offer on the India-spec model. India will get the ABS spec FZ25 as well, but only by 1st April 2019, which is when it has been made compulsory by Indian govt.
Yamaha FZ 25 ABS in Brazil receives 10 spoke alloy wheels and is shodded with Pirelli Sport Demon tyres (India gets MRF tyres) – 100/80-17 in the front and 140/70-17 at the rear. Color options on the Yamaha Fazer 250 ABS include Racing Blue, Matt Red, Eclipse Black and White Crystal. It gets a full LED headlamp and digital instrument panel.
Demand for 200-350 cc segment motorcycles is exponentially growing across the world. Just like India, Brazil too is experiencing a rise in demand in this segment. Yamaha launched the FZ25 in India earlier this year. Yes, it is devoid of some features, but it is also priced at Rs 1.2 lakh in India.
