Yamaha India inaugurates new production facility in Chennai

India Yamaha Motors, the completely owned subsidiary of Yamaha Motors Japan, announces inauguration of their third manufacturing plant in India. This new plant is the first Yamaha India plant to include a vendor park.

The new plant is located in Vallam Vadagal at the outskirts of Chennai, Tamil Nadu is spread over an area of 177 acres. The new unit will include 109 acres of manufacturing plant and 68 acres for vendor partner.

India Yamaha Motor third plant was inaugurated during the Global Investors Meet 2015 at which Ms. J Jayalalithaa, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu was present, along with Mr. Hiroaki Fujita, Chairman, India Yamaha Motor Pvt. Ltd., besides other officials of India Yamaha Motors.

Constructed at an investment of INR 1,500 crores, the plant will have initial capacity of 450,000 units, to be increased to 1.8 million units over the next three years. This will take total production capacity along with the company’s two facilities in Surajpur (Uttar Pradesh) and Faridabad (Haryana) to 2.5 million units by 2018. A total of 2,000 employees are working at the Chennai plant as on date which will be extended to 3,900 employees by 2018 of which 40% will be woman workers.

India Yamaha Motor, Chennai facility is an energy recycling plant incorporating Zero water discharge and reuse and recycling of waste water and optimum utilisation of sunlight with the entire building being compatible to solar power system installation. Initially it will be the new 125cc Saluto motorcycle and Fascino, Alpha, Ray and Ray Z scooters which will be produced at this plant.
