The Yamaha M-Slaz 150 cc street fighter which shares its platform with the Yamaha R15 is turning out to be a sensation among young riders in Thailand and Indonesia (called as the Xabre). Folks behind the Youtube channel named “Mehay Superbike” have come up with a top-speed test run video of the motorcycle on the near-empty Thai roads. At 140 kmph, the M-Slaz packs a mighty impressive punch.
As you can see from the video, the naked bike feels properly sprightly all the way up to 120 kmph post which, the tall 6th gear slows things down a bit. The M-Slaz takes its time to breach the 130 kmph mark. You will need a really long stretch of straight road to reach the top speed of 140 kmph but the important part is, the bike eventually gets there.
The M-Slaz is powered by the 149 cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine which is derived from the R15. Mated to a 6-speed transmission, the motorcycle generates 17 PS at 8,000 rpm and a peak torque of 15 Nm at 7,500 rpm.
Though the naked street fighter uses the same Delta Box chassis as the R15 it employs a USD front telescopic fork (R15 has a regular telescopic unit). The rear suspension continues to be a monoshock.
