A few units of the Yamaha M-Slaz 150 cc naked street fighter which goes by the name Xabre in Indonesia has arrived in Bangladesh signalling an imminent launch. The R15 based compact sportsbike has started off strongly in both Thai and Indonesian markets.
The Bangladesh-spec motorcycle is expected to be sourced from Thailand and hence would go with original M-Slaz nameplate. Importing the bike into the country and retailing it will be taken care by Yamaha’s local partner Hafsa Motor.
The M-Slaz features an aggressive yet compact styling which would go well with young riders. Though the motorcycle shares its platform with the fully-faired R15, there are no visual similarities at all. To further distance itself from its sibling, the M-Slaz adopts an upside down telescopic front fork (like to be carried on to the R15 V3.0). The rear suspension adopts monoshock setup.
The 149 cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox to develop 17 PS at 8,000 rpm and 15 Nm at 7,500 rpm. A recent onboard video shot in Thailand reveals that, if the throttle is fully open long enough, the M-Slaz can hit a top speed of 140 kmph.
The Yamaha M-Slaz is not likely to be launched in India as it would end up costing more than the R15. It’s also to be noted that Yamaha India already has several 150 cc motorcycles in its lineup. Moreover, the Japanese automaker is currently focusing on improving its automatic scooter business.
