EICMA 2015, the world’s largest and the most important two wheeler expo, has kick started today, so brace yourself for an avalanche of exciting world premieres. The Yamaha MT-03 compact street fighter is one of many new motorcycles that have made their first public appearance at the event which is taking place in Milan, Italy.
Ever since the MT-25 went public, we know that it’s only a matter of time before the MT-03 see the light of day. As expected, it’s essentially a naked version of the R3 with an upright riding stance, fuel tank-mounted air intake pods and new color schemes.
Power comes from the same 321 cc parallel-twin liquid-cooled motor which generates 42 PS and 29.6 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed transmission.
The Yamaha MT-03 is equipped with a digital analog instrument console, dual channel ABS brakes with 298 mm front and 220 mm rear dics. The 10-spoke 17-inch alloy wheels are shod with 140/70 section tyres at the rear and 120/70 upfront.
The Yamaha MT-03 will cater to the fast growing compact sportsbike segment across the globe and will be fighting it out with the likes of Honda CBR300F, Kawasaki Z300, KTM Duke 390 and the new BMW G 310 R. The new naked Yamaha is likely to be launched in India as a CKD just like the R3.
