Yamaha R15 V3 does a top speed of 151 kmph – Video

The eagerly awaited and much talked about Yamaha YZF-R15 V3.0 fully faired compact sportsbike was launched some time back in India. It is priced from Rs 1.25 lakh, ex-showroom. As expected, the third iteration of the extremely popular motorcycle comes loaded with new powertrain technologies.

The 155 cc displacement may seem too small given the rising popularity of quarter litre motorcycles in India but with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) and high compression ratio, the puny single-cylinder 4-valve, SOHC fuel-injected motor manages to churn out an impressive 19.3 PS at 10,000 rpm and 15 Nm of torque at 8,500 rpm.

The powertrain is further enhanced by a new slipper clutch which connects the engine with a 6-speed gearbox. The enhancements are claimed to have improved throttle response significantly. No ABS is on offer. Even as option.

The motorcycle continues to be based on the proven Deltabox frame which is suspended by telescopic front fork and rear monoshock. The rear tyre has grown fatter (now its the same size as that of the R3) and the riding posture has become more aggressive, resulting in a sportier character. What does all this translates into? Well, it is probably the only proper sportsbike you can get in the 150 cc segment. Watch the top speed video below.

Visually, the Yamaha YZF-R15 V3.0 looks more inline with the company’s bigger sportsbikes. The front fairing, panels, tailpiece and fuel tank are all new and look sharper than before. The customers can opt for a ‘Racing Kit’ that will add stickier Metzeler tyres, Daytona muffler, and frame slider to the package.

The Yamaha YZF-R15 V3.0 is priced at INR 1,25,000 (Ex-showroom, New Delhi). The motorcycle is on sale from now and is available in Racing Blue and Thunder Grey color options.
