New Yamaha R25 facelift may get USD and slipper clutch like R15

Last year, Yamaha Indonesia Motor Manufacturing (YIMM) introduced two new versions of the Yamaha R25. That time, the update was only cosmetic. For 2017, the company is planning to give the quarter liter sports bike a thorough upgrade.

As per the latest report from Indonesia’s Iwanbanaram, Yamaha is seriously planning on adding slipper clutch and USD forks to the R25. With the new R15 offered with both those features, it is only logical that the same is offered on its elder sibling.

In addition to USD and slipper clutch, Yamaha also plans to add Throttle-by-Wire feature to the R25. This feature is offered with the new Honda CBR250RR, which makes it even more important for Yamaha to offer the same on their 250cc offering. It is not clear whether the engine will be tuned to deliver more power, but considering that the CBR250RR is currently the most powerful in the segment at 38.7 PS, the option is not ruled out.

Engine specification on the Yamaha R25 include a 250cc, 2 cylinder liquid cooled engine offering 35.5 hp at 12,000 rpm and 22.1 Nm torque at 10,000 rpm mated to a 6 speed gearbox. Where dimensions are concerned, Yamaha R25 measures 2,090 mm in length, 720 mm in width, 1,135 mm in height and has a seat height of 780 mm.

Not on sale in India, current color choices include Grey/Black and Diablo Red/White combinations, besides the Racing Blue/White color choice, while engine and technology sees no change. It is retailed in Indonesia for IDR 59 million (INR 2.85 lakhs) for the ABS variant. The non-ABS variant, continues to sport three colors of Racing Blue, Diablo Red and Predator Black.

Yamaha R25 rivals the likes of Hyosung GT250R, Kawasaki Ninja 250, Honda CBR250R and the new KTM RC250.
