Yamaha R3 spied again, this time in a packed and dispatch ready condition (Update)


UPDATE 5th June 2015: Last month Yamaha R3 was spied on Indian roads for the first time. Considering that the company had just started testing the R3 in India, launch was expected to take place towards the end of 2015. But, now a new image has surfaced of R3, showing it in a ready for dealer dispatch condition; does this imply launch is sooner than expected?

15th May 2015: Yamaha fans in India have been left venting their anger at the company for not launching a proper mid-sized sportsbike. When the R25 was launch, there were hopes that it will be launched in India, but nothing happened. Same thing followed when the R3 was introduced in international markets. But, there is finally some good, solid news for Yamaha fans.

Powered by a 321 cc twin cylinder liquid cooled engine, the new R3 launch could be closer than expected. Imported earlier this year, these are the first spy shots of R3 sportsbike.

Arguably the best looking sportsbike in the 300 cc fully faired segment, its fuel injected 4 valve engine delivers maximum power of 42 PS at 10,750 rpm and a peak torque of 29.6 Nm at 9,000 rpm. Coupled with a six speed gearbox, this engine gives R3 a top speed of 187 kmph and 0-60 kmph acceleration of 2.89 seconds, and 0-100 kmph in 6 seconds.

Further accentuating the R3, are its diamond-type frame with telescopic forks in the front and monoshock at the rear. Tyre size for the front is 110/70 while rear gets 140/70 rubber, with 17 inch 10 spoke alloys. Both front and rear get disc brakes with ABS. Front gets 298 mm disc while rear gets 220 mm disc.

Weighing 169 kgs, the Indian edition also gets a saree guard (as seen in the spy shot). Dimensions of R3 stand at 2090 x 720 x 1135 (length x width x height)mm, with a wheelbase of 1380 mm and ground clearance of 160 mm. Once launched, price in India could be in the range of Rs 3.5 – 4 lakhs.
