With leading auto manufacturers working towards smooth BS6 transition, a number of manufacturers have already started introducing BSVI compliant vehicles in a phased manner. Yamaha India is likely to introduce its BSVI compatible motorcycles and scooters in the market well before the recommended deadline of April 2020. The company revealed details about the same via a press statement today.
Yamaha’s lineup of BS6 compatible motorcycles and scooters will be introduced in several phases beginning November 2019 for motorcycles. BSVI compliant scooters will be introduced January 2020 onward. A clear timeline is massively helpful to buyers who wish to buy BSVI two-wheelers. This gives them a clear outline of how long they would need to wait to make a purchase.
With the launch of BSVI compliant vehicles, Yamaha expects a price hike that’ll need to be borne by customers in part. This is owing the simple math of production cost increase. The price impact may range from 10 – 15 percent, owing to vehicle features.
Yamaha’s line-up of motorcycles for India include – R3, MT15, R15, Fazer 25, FZ25, FZS FI, FZ FI, SZ RR V2, Saluto 125 and Saluto RX. Scooter lineup from Yamaha includes – RayZR, Fascino, and Alpha. Yamaha India will standardize offsetting benefits in select two wheeler models. Since 2018, the company has been focused on improving its premium segment market share.
While auto manufacturers are on track to transition, the effort will only be as smooth as possible if BSVI fuel availability is proper. And for this to happen, major oil companies need to assure fuel availability across the country on time. So while BSVI vehicles are being launched, whether or not BSVI fuel will be available before April 1, 2020 is yet to be confirmed. As such vehicle and fuel symbiosis is not yet a reality.
Indian auto industry in the meantime has been dealing with a prominent sales slowdown. And Yamaha is no exception. Yamaha Motor India reported de-growth in Q1 FY2019-20. Down 15.11 percent, sales declined to 1,72,604 units in the last quarter. Down from 2,03,335 units sold in Q2 FY2018-19. Market share contracted by 0.14 percent to 3.44 as against 3.58 in Q2 18.
