2017 Mercedes GLS Class officially revealed

Set to replace existing GL Class SUV, Mercedes Benz has officially revealed the new GLS Class. To be launched in 2016 as 2017 model, new GLS Class is basically a facelift of the GL Class. It gets the new name because of Mercedes Benz adopted the new nomenclature earlier this year.

New Mercedes Benz GLS Class gets more sportier and bolder in design thanks to subtle changes made to the exterior of the SUV. It gets a new grille with a large three pointed star in the centre, headlamp cluster is redesigned and features LED DRLs and projector headlamps. Adding to the muscular look is the new lower bumper on board the GLS Class.

Other changes on the outside include new alloy design, new tail lamp design, revised rear bumper design, and a range of new exterior colour options.

2017 Mercedes GLS SUV interiors

Interiors of new GL Class feature a similar layout as compared to the current GL Class, except for the free standing inftainment screen. The new GLS ditches dashboard integrated screen to a new free-standing display which is powered by a more powerful processor and updated software. You can control the system via the touchpad placed in between the front seats, or via steering mounted controls.

Being the flagship SUV, the craftsmanship on board the GLS Class is intricate. To add a personal touch, GLS Class is also offered with the designo Exclusive nappa leather package.

Speaking about engine options, GLS Class will be offered in a range of petrol and diesel engine options. The base diesel variant – GLS 350d will be powered by a 3.0 liter diesel V6 generating 255 hp and 420 Nm torque. Petrol base GLS 450 gets 3.0 liter V6 turbo generating 362 hp and 500 Nm torque. Top of the line GLS 550 gets twin turbo V8 4.0 liter generating 449 hp and 700 Nm torque. There is also the AMG variant, GLS 63 AMG, powered by the same V8 4.0 liter generating 577 hp, 27 hp more than GL 63 AMG. All variants feature 4MATIC all wheel drive system.

Transmission will be taken care by nine-speed 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission on all variants except GLS 63 AMG, which gets AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G-TRONIC transmission.
