New Honda Unicorn 160 facelift with BS-IV and AHO launched

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India announced the launch of updated Unicorn 160 today. New Honda Unicorn 160 comes with a BSIV compliant engine and is priced from 73,552, ex-Delhi. It is also one of the first bikes in the segment to get AHO (Automatic Headlamp On).

Honda Unicorn 160 has been battling with low sales through 2016, to the point that the monthly sales of the bike reached a record low of 26 units. This after selling over 1 lakh units of the same bike in 2015. But, now with updated styling and an improved engine, HMSI is hoping for increased sales in 2017.

Style Upgrades

The 2017 CB Unicorn 160 comes with a new longer visor and a refreshing new Matte Marvel Blue colour. The existing Imperial Red Metallic and Pearl Igneous Black colours will get new attractive graphics as a standard fitment.

The CB Unicorn 160 is offered in 5 attractive colours – Imperial Red Metallic, Pearl Igneous Black, Pearl Amazing White, Matte Axis Grey and NEW ADDITION- Matte Marvel Blue.

Engine & Features

Powered by a 163 cc single cylinder engine, the Unicorn 160 delivers 13.82 BHP at 8,000 rpm and peak torque of 13.92 Nm at 6,000 rpm. Mated to a five speed manual gearbox, the new Honda Unicorn delivers a mileage of 62 kmpl, thanks to Honda Eco Technology (HET).

Sharing some design elements with CB Trigger, the new Honda CB Unicorn 160 will receive an all digital instrument console, a muscular fuel tank and new side fenders giving it a more aggressive stance. It will be seen with a single elongated seat placing it in the commuter category. This premium commuter bike from Honda will sit on six spoke 17 inch alloy wheels and will receive prominent grab handles, a rear saree guard and H shaped LED tail light cluster.

Front suspension comes in the form telescopic forks, while rear gets the monoshock treatment. Weighing about 135 kgs, the motorcycle has a top speed of just 106 kmph. Stopping power comes in the form of 240 mm discs in the front and drum brake at the rear. Rear disc is not on offer, even as an option. Front tyre is 80/100 while the rear tyre gets 110/80.

Speaking about decline in sales during 2016, there could be many reasons. One of them is believed to be the launch of Unicorn 150 and the more stylish Hornet 160. This is largely believed to be the reason behind sales of Honda CB Unicorn 160 declining from 13,500 to 15,600 units per month back in 2015, to just 26 units in Nov 2016.

However, with the new Unicorn 160 facelift now launched, the company is hoping for the bike to register good sales during 2017. Apart from India, new Honda Unicorn is also exported. The sports commuter bike was also launched in Kathmandu, Nepal through local authorized distributors Syakar Trading Company.
