Car sales report May 2016 – Honda and Tata Motors

Honda Cars India Limited saw sales decline 26% in May 2016. The company sold 9,954 units during the past month as against 13,431 units sold in May 2015. Exports during the month stood at 651 units, taking total sales upto 10,605 units.

Model wise break up of sales saw Honda Cars sell 228 units of the Brio, 2,473 units of Honda Jazz and 1,409 units of the Amaze sedan. The company also sold 126 units of Mobilio MPV and 3,305 units of City sedan. Of the recently launched Honda BR-V priced from INR 8.75 lakhs, sales during May stood at 2,344 units while 69 units of the CRV were sold during the month.

Tata Motors on the other hand saw sales growth to the extent of 1%. Sales during the month of May 2016 stood at 40,071 units as against 39,496 units sold in May 2015.

Domestic sales in the passenger and commercial vehicle segment were up 2% to 35,643 units. Sales of passenger vehicles in domestic markets were at 8,617 units in May 2016 as against 11,138 units sold in May 2015, a decline of 23% while in the commercial vehicle segment company domestic sales increased 14% to 27,026 units in May 2016 over sales in the corresponding period a year earlier. Exports dipped 5% and stood at 4,428 units as compared to 4,678 units exported in May 2015.

After the successful launch of Tiago, Tata Motors will launch Hexa SUV, Kite sedan and Nexon compact crossover by 2017. This should bring an increase in sales for the company.
