Scoop – Land Rover Discovery Sport petrol price slashed by INR 7 lakh

Land Rover Discovery Sport was retailed at INR 56.5 lakh, ex-showroom. Now it is retailed at INR 49.5 lakh. This happens a day after Jeep India launched Wrangler Unlimited Petrol variant for INR 56 lakh.

The new petrol variant of Land Rover Discovery Sport (HSE) was first launched back in June 2016 at a starting price of INR 56.5 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). Price of this same variant has now been slashed by INR 7 lakh, and the starting price now is INR 49.5 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi.

This news comes a day after Jeep India surprised all by launching the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Petrol variant at a staring price of INR 56 lakh, under-cutting the old Discovery Sport’s price tag by about INR 50,000. But, seems like Land Rover India is having the last laugh.

The 2.0-litre four-cylinder Si4 petrol engine is tuned to deliver an impressive 240 PS and 340 Nm of torque. The motor is mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission and comes with a standard 4WD system. Based on the aluminium extensive iQ architecture, Discovery Sport for India is also offered with a 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel motor. A 9-speed automatic transmission drives either the rear or all the four wheels.

The luxury SUV is equipped with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a comprehensive suite of driver assistance systems including park assist which steers automatically, terrain response system, full fledged safety features, sliding second row and an optional third row with 5+2 seating configuration.

JLR India has been registering impressive growth rate in the last few years, resulting in steady increase in the number of locally assembled models (Land Rover Evoque, Discovery Sport, Jaguar XF and XJ). Discovery Sport and Jaguar XE are set to boost the growth further in the coming years.

JLR India has stated that the company is in the process of introducing more petrol models in India to keep its growth momentum intact and broaden the appeal.
