Maruti Ciaz SHVS Hybrid will be launched today in India. The mild hybrid diesel sedan promises increased fuel economy and reduced CO2 emissions.
SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) is a mild hybrid system which incorporates an Integrated Starter Generator (ISG). ISG derives electricity from battery and provides power assistance to the IC engine. The battery is then charged by means of regenerative braking. The car also benefits from start-stop technology.
The system is reported to boost the fuel efficiency of Ciaz diesel form 26.21 kmpl to 28 kmpl. The SHVS system is imported in to India but a considerable portion of the addition cost involved is likely to be subsidized by the Indian government’s FAME scheme. We expect Ciaz SHVS to be dearer than regular diesel variant by around INR 35,000-40,000).
With the launch of SHVS variant, Maruti is likely to make ABS, EBD and driver airbag standard across Ciaz range.
Maruti is likely to replace the regular diesel model with SHVS model which is reported to be available across all the variants. Like S-Cross, Ciaz SHVS is expected to offer ABS, EBD and driver air bag standard across the range.

Maruti Ciaz SHVS is the first hybrid sedan in its segment. Based on the acceptance of this mild hybrid technology, the car maker is expected to implement it in more products such as Ertiga, Swift and Dzire.
