Maruti Baleno sales cross 6.5 lakh in 4 years – Creates record

One of the best selling car from Maruti Suzuki India, the Baleno hatchback has achieved yet another milestone sales record. In just 4 years since launch, this small car from Maruti, which is also the lightest in the segment, has achieved 6.5 lakh sales in India.

New Maruti Suzuki Baleno is powered by 1.2 liter naturally aspirated petrol engine, that offers 84 PS power and 115 Nm torque mated to a 5 speed manual transmission or a CVT. There is also a new 1.2 liter DualJet petrol engine with a mild hybrid system that is offered on select variants of the Baleno which gets mated to a 5 speed manual.

These engines get updated to company with BS VI emission standards but see no change in either power or performance. The petrol engine claims fuel efficiency of 21.4 kmpl while this goes up to 23.87 kmpl on the DualJet petrol mild hybrid engine.

The Fiat sourced 1.3 liter turbocharged diesel engine offers 75 PS power and 190 Nm torque. This engine does not get updated to BS VI emission standards and continues to conform to BS IV standards mated to a 5 speed manual transmission, claiming fuel efficiency of 27.39 kmpl. Diesel Baleno will be discontinued by March 2020.

2019 Maruti Suzuki Baleno comes in with enhanced safety features. These include ABS, EBD, ISOFIX child seat anchors, dual front airbags and rear parking sensors. There is also a rear view camera while the facelift also sports new LED projector headlamps and new alloy wheels. Interiors are seen with a 7” touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and other features such as automatic climate control, push button start and stop feature and passive keyless entry.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno sold via the NEXA dealership network in India competes with the the Volkswagen Polo, Honda Jazz and Hyundai Elite i20 and it will also face competition from the soon to be launched Tata Altroz in the premium hatchback segment. It also competes with its clone, Toyota Glanza.
