McLaren P1 GTR special edition honors F1 hero James Hunt

In the memory of James Hunt who is widely acclaimed as one of the greatest F1 drivers to have lived, Woking based McLaren has come up with a special edition of its hybrid hypercar. The McLaren P1 GTR James Hunt Edition will perform the famous Goodwood FoS Hill Climb this weekend.

Taking it up the hill will be none other than ex-F1 driver Bruno Senna. The nephew of the great Ayrton Senna currently drives for Mahindra Racing in Formula E.

McLaren P1 GTR special edition for James Hunt tribute

The P1 GTR James Hunt edition adopts a matte black paint job with a blue, yellow and red livery that is inspired by the British racing driver’s helmet. The hypercar also sports the number 11 which was used by Hunt throughout his F1 career. He won the 1976 driver’s championship with that number in his first season with the McLaren team.

Apart from the special livery that pays tribute to the British racing driver, the P1 GTR remains unchanged. It continues to be powered by a petrol hybrid powertrain which employs the firm’s 3.8-litre V8 engine. The output figure stands at a mighty 1000 PS.

The special edition celebrates 40th anniversary of James Hunt’s F1 championship with McLaren.
