Mob vandalizes 76 cars inside a society after road accident kills youth – Photos & Video

A mob of 150 strong men went on a rampage inside the complex of Fort Oasis on Panditiya Road in Kolkata after a youth was killed in an accident. Abhijit Panday, a third-year BCom student of the Shyamaprasad College was killed when he and his two friends who were travelling on a scooter were hit by a car.

The accident occurred in front of Paramount Nursing Home, Hazra Road at 2.30 pm on Sunday. Panday was driving the scooter while his two friends were riding pillion. All three were without helmets. Pandey was declared dead at the Ramkrishna Mission Seva Pratishthan while his two friends Yadav and Roy are undergoing treatment at the SSKM Hospital.

The occupants of the car fled the scene after the accident. Following the incident, a mob of 150 people entered the housing complex and damaged property and smashed 76 cars in the parking area. This incident occurred after family and friends of Panday believed that the owners of the Mercedes E 250 which crashed into the youths were from this housing society.

It followed after some persons found a maintenance fee receipt of the housing complex in the Mercedes E250 which hit the youths. The mob were armed with iron rods, bricks and hockey sticks and proceeded to vent their ire on all cars in the complex that including expensive cars like Mercedes C 220, BMW X1, an Audi A4 and Honda City besides a Skoda Laura and Honda Jazz. Multiple cases have been registered while it was later found that the car did not belong to anyone from that particular complex. It was in fact registered in the name of Little Start Tie-up Pvt Ltd at the AJC Bose road of which Sudarshashan Kumar Maheshwari and Varun Maheshwari are directors.
