While Mahindra’s two wheeler division is not likely to showcase a new regular production model at the Auto Expo 2016, the company will be aiming to pull the crowd with its 2016 Moto3 race bike and the GenZe 2.0 electric scooter.
The 2016 Mahindra Moto3 race bike has been designed and developed by Mahindra Racing
at its new head quarters located in Varese, Italy. The bike is expected to be very different from the 2015 contender. Starting from last year, Mahindra supplied its Moto3 bikes to 9 riders across 4 teams as a constructor. This year, Peugeot Motorcycle will also enter the competition using Mahindra’s racing equipment. More details about the Mahindra Racing’s 2016 Moto3 campaign would be revealed at the expo.
Coming to the GenZe 2.0, the pure electric scooter which is designed and manufactured in the US would be here to gather public opinion. The futuristic runabout targets young and tech-savvy urban commuters. The scooter’s exposed aluminium chassis, LED headlights, 7-inch touchscreen instrument console powertrain management functions, disc brake at each wheel and a storage compartment with 12V power socket make it a practical and environment friendly commuter.
The GenZe 2.0 is powered by a hub-mounted electric motor which derives electricity from a removable 1.6 KWh battery which can be charged through a common 110 V wall socket. The battery is claimed to take 3.5 hours to attain 100% charge and gives the scooter a range of 48 km. Top speed stands at 48 kmph.
Considering that the GenZe 2.0 is priced at USD 2,999 (over INR 2 lakhs), it’s not likely to be sold in India anytime soon.
